How do I use the menstrual cleaning cup

  • Disinfection in a microwave

Place your menstrual cup into the disinfection cup and fill it up with cold water.  Then push the lid into place. Sterilise in the microwave for up to 3 minutes. The water must be boiling for the disinfection to be effective. If in doubt, please consult your microwave manual. Most customers use medium power level / wattage.

The disinfection cup will be very hot because of the heating process. Please take appropriate safety measures (pot cloth, oven mittens) for your hands and be very careful when removing the disinfection cup from the microwave. The safest option is to let the cup and it's contents cool down inside the microwave then remove when it is a cooler temperature.

  • Rinsing on the go

Put your cup into the sterilising pot. Fill with water either from a sink or from a bottle of water. Close the lid. Put your finger over the steam vent holes and shake your cup.  Then holding the lid in place allow the water to drain down the toilet through the vent holes.

No more standing next to the hob with a slotted spoon to stop the cup sitting on the bottom of a pan! This makes so much sense and works exactly as it's supposed to. It works for a menstrual disc, too. I'd suggest putting it on a plate or in a bowl in the microwave as hot water can bubble out of the vents while in use.
