Washing Instructions
1. When you’re finished using your first pair, rinse and twist them under cold water until the water runs clear – this helps protect the fabric.
2. When you’re ready to put on a dark wash, pop your pants into a 30℃ – 40℃ cycle (if you have a delicates bag, even better!). Do not use fabric softener when washing the pants as this can lessen the absorbency of the gusset fabric. You could even try using an eco-friendly washing detergent, or hand-wash with natural soap.
3. Once your pants are clean and fresh, hang them up to air dry or even pop them on a radiator to speed up the process. This is a tumble-dryer-free zone! As we use only the best technical fabric, our pants shouldn’t take more than a day or night to dry.
About Hey Girls!
Hey Girls! are an award-winning ‘buy one, donate one’ social enterprise, producing environmentally-friendly period products that fund the fight to end period poverty in the UK. A multi-million-pound Scottish community interest company, Hey Girls was initially established in 2018 by Celia Hodson and her two daughters Kate and Bec as a kitchen table start up after experiencing period poverty themselves. All of their profits go towards funding the fight for equal periods for everyone.
How many pairs of period pants do I need?
We tend to find that 5-7 pairs of underwear are enough for the average cycle. 2 Night time pairs and 3-5 day time pairs means that you have enough to wash every other day and ensure that they dry in time for their next use.
Machine Washing Period Underwear.
Washing period pants in the washing machine is the most effective way to care for your undies.
Here is a basic guide to wash period pants:
- When you remove your used underwear rinse them thoroughly with cold water till the water runs clear. You can gently rub them to help remove as much blood as possible.
- Either pop them in your normal washing with other clothes or store them in a wet bag until wash day.
- Wash on a cold wash at either 30 or 40deg. You can use your normal detergent but avoid fabric softener.
Most companies will advise you to avoid harsh chemicals, fabric conditioner and tumble drying, as eventually it will lead to a shorter life span and issues with performance.
